He was famed not for battle, but for the mystical patterns that spilled from his hands—twisting lines, looping knots, and tangled beasts that seemed to writhe on wood and stone. One freezing night, Bjorn was visited by a dream. Endless loops of ivory and midnight blue snaked across his vision, entwining into a living river. Shapes wove in and out: serpents biting their tails, one-eyed ravens, and the all-seeing gaze of Odin, Father of All. At the center, a great diamond knot pulsed with secret energy. Bjorn set to work with his finest blade, dusk to dawn, his breath frosting the air. He carved a great shield, overlaying it with the patterns from his dreams: the sinuous lines, the staring eyes, the never-ending mazes. When it was over, dawn crept once more across the ice. The draugar were gone, and the village was safe. Bjorn’s shield, exhausted but unbroken, rested in the new snow. The elders proclaimed that the art of the ancestors had protected them, that the patterns snaking across the shield held the power to awaken the land’s mightiest forces.

For generations afterward, children traced the knots and swirls on that legendary shield. They watched for the subtle shimmer in the designs, dreaming of the day they might unlock the mysteries winding through their people’s heritage.
