Autumn Tree Wall Clock with Viking Axe and Skull Design

Beneath the dying sun of autumn, the roots of the Great Yggdrasil pressed deep into the earth, its branches ablaze with rust and blood. Every leaf was a fragment of memory, fluttering through the crisp air, twisting time through the seasons. At the foot of this sacred tree, where roots knotted the ground like the tangled dreams of warriors, an ancient relic was embedded: a mighty Viking axe, its double blades etched with runes and stories lost to mortal tongues. Resting atop the haft, as if guarding the axe and tree alike, was a skull—cleaned by years of rain and kissed by the wind, its hollow eyes forever watching the world.

The crows gathered every dusk, black silhouettes against the fiery leaves, their calls echoing among the branches. All who passed the forest’s edge spoke in hushed tones of the Autumn Tree and the curse it bore: No man who sought its shadow for greed or glory would return. But every so often, the brave—or the desperate—would come, drawn by tales of the axe said to belong to Ragnar Oathbreaker, the greatest of the Wolf Clan. They believed the weapon housed his spirit, and that, if wielded with honor, it would grant its bearer victory beyond imagining.

Erik, outcast and orphan, paid these warnings no mind. The fire in his blood demanded answers—the truth of his father, lost to the mists years before. Determined, Erik braved the walls of shadow and approached the haunted tree as the sun bled its last colors into the sky. There, amid the whirling leaves, he hesitated, caught by the artistry of the ancient axe: the gleaming steel bore patterns like flowing knots, dancing wolves and ravens locked in eternal chase. Beneath them, the skull regarded him with a gaze that was not empty, but heavy with judgment.

As Erik stepped forward, the wind shifted. It carried the scents of burning wood and cold earth, and a thousand whispered tales. His fingers brushed the haft, and the world fell silent—except for the relentless ticking of time, a heartbeat growing louder as if the tree itself remembered. For a moment, Erik saw visions: warriors locked in battle beneath autumn leaves; axes raised; skulls grinning in defiance of death. The skull above the axe seemed to speak, not with words, but memories of courage and betrayal.

To claim the axe, Erik understood, he must not seek glory or even vengeance, but forgiveness. The tree was not a marker of conquest, but a grave. A circle, just as the seasons, just as the unyielding ring of warriors by firelight. Erik fell to his knees, offering the doubts and anger that had shadowed his heart. He whispered a promise to honor the fallen—and to begin anew, without the weight of ancestral sins.

The leaves around him swirled, flames against the dark, and with a groan like thunder, the axe loosened. Erik gripped the haft, finding it warm, as though it recognized him. The skull no longer looked down in accusation, but in kinship: a silent father’s blessing.

As dawn rose, Erik walked from the wood, axe slung across his back, the spirit of autumn flickering in his eyes. He was not the first to come—nor would he be the last. Every year, the tree shed its leaves and whispered its story: of time unbroken, of warriors who remembered, and of sons who became legends.

And deep within the heart of the tree, another ring was carved, marking the passage of time, and the merging of old and new. The crows took flight, scattering stories across the crimson sky, promising that no legend—nor love—ever truly faded.
